Warren Platner is a world renowned furniture designer whose
collection was heavily inspired by his background in architecture,
which he studied at Cornell University. After graduating, he went on
to work with some of the most prominent architects in the United
States, including the firms of Eero Saarinen and Kevin Roche in the
early and mid-1960s. Platner is primarily remembered for his
trademark furniture collection for Knoll. In 1966, Platner unveiled
his collection of chairs, ottomans and tables. Platner himself
formulated the production of the complicated pieces, many of which
were constructed from over one hundred cylindrical steel rods and
over a thousand welds. With its complex and distinguished design,
the collection was, and continues to be, a staple of modern design.
A few pieces now available at One and Home.

HOLLYWOOD REGENCY seems to be dominating the
world of interior design these days. It’s a style that’s fresh
and modern, with old-fashioned wit and vintage accents.
Hollywood Regency style came about after celebrities in the
1930’s were inspired by luxurious film sets to have their own
homes decorated in the same fashion. These sets were meant to
draw attention to the occupants of the room and signify their
extravagant lifestyles. It’s
a balance of modernism and drama in décor. It consists of simple
furniture mixed with bold antique accents from around the world,
which add an element of sophistication. Bright colors and big
patterns give these rooms unique personalities to reflect those
of their owners. 1930’s actor William Haines established the
look and influenced his contemporaries, Dorothy Draper and Billy
Baldwin, as well as current designers such as Jonathan Adler and
Kelly Wearstler who keep the style very much alive today.
