7-18-13 | Dunbar Edward Wormley Cane Dining Chairs Sideboard, Thonet Barrel Back Bar Stools and Club Chairs, vintage Karpen Bros Furniture High Back Lounge Chair, Karpen Pair Modern Sculptural Barrel Club Chairs, Eames Herman Miller Alluminum Group Coffee Table, retro 3 Piece Milo Baughman for Thayer Goggin Bench Stools, Slat Bench Coffee Table with Drawer, Furniture

Well, I am almost caught up.  I have many pieces going out to be reupholstered and re-finished, but I've shared most of my mid-mod furniture inventory with you......then I have two estates buys to finalize and it will start all over again.

Here are some great pieces I picked up this past week through auctions, an estate sale, and a private buy.  Besides the chairs, all should be available tonight.

A set of six cane back dining room chairs by Edward Wormley for Dunbar.  The caning is in excellent condition and no blemishes take away from the overall aesthetics.  I also have the matching dining room table available (not pictured).

A match to the chairs above, this Edward Wormley for Dunbar Sideboard / credenza on casters is a stunning piece.

A pair of 43.5" Tall, black leather with tubular chrome barrel back bar stools, probably by Thonet.

A match to the bar stools above is a pair of Thonet black leather barrel back club / lounge chairs in excellent condition.  I purchased a set of four, but two have already sold.  The other two will be available this evening.

AVAILABLE SOON - A mid-century Karpen Bros of Chicago STUNNING blue high back lounge chair with wood arms, accents, and legs.  The upholstery is original and in near mint condition.  The foam has petrified and needs replaced.

AVAILABLE SOON - A pair of Late 1940's - early 1950's Modern sculptural Karpen Bros Furniture barrel club / lounge chairs.  The lines on these chairs are absolutely gorgeous.  They appear to be influenced by Vladimir Kagan OR Adrian Pearsall, BUT these pieces are way before their time.  Is it possible that this chair influenced them?  I am going to have these chairs reupholstered and refinished.

A Modern Eames for Herman Miller Aluminum Group coffee table.  The base is Herman Miller, the top is not. However, I like this top much better. It is a hard acrylic and gets away from the hard edge lines of the Aluminum Group tables.  I have never been a fan of Eames Aluminum Group tables, BUT the thin edge on this table offers a subtle hint of elegance.  I like it.

A rare three piece set, Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin bench stool seat.  This piece has been cleaned and the legs have been refinished.  There is still a pen mark on one of the white vinyl seats, but I am in the process of getting that fixed.  The bench measures approximatley 62" L x :20.5"D x 14.5" H.  This piece can work for so many uses in a retro home including an entry way, a bed foot bench, a kids playroom, an office waiting room and the list goes on...

I've never seen one.  Really?  A mid century slat coffee table with a drawer and drink stand?  Well, maybe I have, but I passed it up. I had to buy this one.  This piece isn't made by a master craftsman, but it is hot.  Before there was a black drink stand, there was yellow linoleum.  Huh? That is right. I pulled off the yellow linoleum and painted it black.  I sanded and refinished the top.  It is ready to add character to any mod living space.

Just In 7-9-13 | Thonet Bruno Weill Bent Ply Chairs, Dux Sweeden Recliner & Ottoman, Vintage Tripod Planter, Stanley Sideboard, Mid-Century Desk, Arne Jacobsen tripod stacking stools, Mod Dry Bar

A few new pieces came in and a few are now currently available. A few need work, and a few have already sold.  Here is a quick glimpse of some of my new items.

But before we get the fun stuff, I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend.  We traveled to my In-Laws lake house in Nebraska (Sorry, I can't share the name of the lake - we sort of like it quiet there. Too many people from Colorado are buying real estate and bringing their large boats and wake boards).

Here is a quick view of the lake from our dogs eyes. Our dogs - Hoss (left) and Hopper (Right) love the wind in their fur.
A side profile of Hoss, our Black Mouth Cur.  This dog is almost 6 months old, weighs 60+ lbs and is taller then our Chocolate Lab, Hopper.  He is big, but a good boy.

A mid -century Modern, teak lounge chair and ottoman by Dux of Sweeden.  The upholstery is in amazing condition.  The wood needs cleaned and the back cross bar needs a little work.  I am bringing this to my furniture repair guys tomorrow and should have it available soon.

A pair of 1948 - mid century modern Bent Ply chairs by Bruno Weill for Thonet.  The chairs are from the beginning stages of molded plywood design and have direct Bauhaus lineage through Bruno Weill..  Originally Weill patented these chairs in 1944 and the patent was accepted for production in 1948.

The chairs need restored.  As soon as they are complete, I will share them with you again.

A pair of danish modern Arne Jacobsen style tripod stacking stools in excellent vintage condition. These stools will be available tonight.

Unbelievable.  I was called to a pick yesterday and this piece has already been recycled.  My good friend Mid Century Mike sold this piece to one of his customers year or so ago.  The customer just sold their amazing Atomic Ranch 1950's home and are moving away from mid-century retro, to rustic Modern. I have a picture of their atomic ranch below.

Is it a coincidence??  I purchased this piece from an estate a few years back. At that time, I was only buying Modern furniture and accessories.  So, I gave it to Mid Century Mike.  It is now back in my possession.  This piece came from the same customers mentioned above.

Here is a quick cell phone picture of the 1950's atomic ranch home where I purchased the furniture mentioned above.  This photo does not do the home justice.  When I arrived to the home a "coming soon" rider was on the real estate sign.  When the door opened, the home was sold.  This house is located in the Glenn's just north of Garrison and Colfax in Lakewood, Colorado.

I usually do not purchase retro dry bars as they take up space and are too much work for one person.  However, this bar stands out and I couldn't resist the purchase.  It has been reupholstered with a black on grey vinyl with a round chrome foot rest.  The bar measures approximately 7' across and 3.5' deep. Honestly, I should have passed on this piece.  It needs a little work and I would rather put my time into items I enjoy more.  IF you are interested in this bar, please contact me and I'll make you a fair deal.

A retro, vintage spaghetti tripod planter.  This piece sold.

Just-In 7-2-13 | Mid Century Lamps, Lighting, Danish Modern, Italian, teak, OC White Industrial, laurel, Lightolier, Frank Gehry, Herman Miller John Wilkes Chiclet Sofa and Don Chadwick Chair

Well, the past couple of weeks I have not been doing much buying.  I've been trying to catch up on old projects, organizing my storage facilities, cleaning out my garage, and even listing some items on Craigslist. .  Sorry, but several pieces I purchased over the last couple of months I sold before photographing.  I have several pieces being restored or reupholstered and hope to have them back after the 4th of July.

I was able to take photos of mid century lamps, lighting and a few pieces I brought down to my gallery space to share with you.

This piece has been in my possession for several months.  It is a mid century counterweight pull down wall sconce.  The piece is in excellent working condition and is currently available.

An OC White articulating antique industrial task lamp.  Not Modern, but very functional and adds the industrial machine age decor to any modern space.  This piece is currently available.

A Laurel "style", sculptural brass on walnut table lamp.  This a stunning piece and is currently available. The lamp was re-wired.

A pair of vintage, mid-century, sculptural ceramic table lamps in maroon with gold flakes.  The pieces are in excellent condition.  This was one of my projects.  They have new antique brass hardware and are re-wired. They are currently available.

A pair of mid century modern, ceramic, blue drip glaze,  brass bass with brass spokes, table lamps.  These lamps are in near mint condition, showing very limited patina. Very cool.  They have been rewired and are available now.

A white with orange accent, Italian ceramic pottery, mid-century, table lamp with walnut base and walnut stem.  The piece is signed Made in Italy on the bottom.  Very, very pretty.   This piece has been rewired and is available now.

A vintage, brass, walnut finial, glass shade, mid-century tension pole lamp.  This piece is in great, clean condition.  The glass shades have a hint of amber and protect a brass cone shade within.  This piece is currently available.

A nice, OMI, brass pharmacy floor lamp.  This piece has a three way switch and is in fantastic condition.  It is currently available.

A stunning pair of brass cylinder, Lightolier, mid-century modern, pendant lamps.  I was real close to keeping these two lights for my guest bathroom, but decided I should start selling, rather then keeping.  These two lights are currently available.

A Danish Modern, turned teak, chrome hardware table lamp.  This piece is ready to go, but I have yet to determine a price.  Right now, it is sitting in my office for my enjoyment.  This piece will be available soon.

A vintage Danish Modern, teak floor lamp.  This piece is in near mint condition.  The shade add quite a bit of character and adds the mod ambiance. This piece is currently available.

Wow, Wow, Wow.  One of my favorite, recent finds.  This pair of vintage, Danish Modern, ceramic studio pottery table lamps have new brass hardware and have been re-wired.  The pieces have a heavy dark blue drip glaze on a custom brown and black glaze.  I love these lamps.  They are currently available.

A Frank Gehry, Easy Edges, Modern, corrugated cardboard pendant ceiling light.  For the moment, this piece is staying in my collection.  As many of you know, items don't stay in my collection for long, so this might be available soon.

A vintage, 1970's modern design, blue, Herman Miller Chiclet sofa designed by John Wilkes.  This piece is in fantastic, original condition.  On my monitor, the blue is more turquoise then it actually is.  The piece is darker in person.  This piece is available now.

A vintage, 1970's, FUN, Herman Miller Lounge chair designed by Don Chadwick.  The upholstery matches the sofa above and is in fantastic condition.  The chair is currently available.

Weekend Project - Mid Century Fireplace

I went to an estate auction this past Saturday for items other then mid-century furniture.  However, I walked away with a weekend project.

I was the only modern furniture buyer at the auction, but there was a farmer/rancher that wanted this piece also.  He made me pay for it.  Instead of professionally restoring the piece, I decided to head to Home Depot to buy some steel wool, phosphoric acid (rust neutralizer), metal primer, and paint and keep the piece for Nicole and myself.  By Monday evening and a total of 8 hours of work, the piece was complete.  Here are a couple of before and afters of my new outdoor fireplace.

Before - A rusty, but sturdy mess

Before - The back of the fireplace.  Yes, it is rusty, but the rust has not compromised the bones.

After...about eight hours of work.  We christened the fireplace tonight.  It is perfect for our needs.  We love it.
