Just-In 12-12-15 | Mid-Century Pair of Arka Chairs by Yngve Ekström - Sweden

Rare pair of mid-century modern solid oak "Arka" lounge chairs by Swedish furniture designer Yngve Ekström. The chairs feature a bentwood barrel rail and spindle back with tapered legs and dark grey cushions.

Architect Yngve Ekström was a significant contributor to the definition of "Scandinavian Modern". From an early age, working with his father, he gained a very versatile knowledge and craftsmanship in furniture design and manufacturing.  In 1945, together with his brother, he started Swedese Furniture. Almost 11 years later, he developed the easy chair "Lamino", in 1956.  in 1958 he designed the Arka chair, as pictured above, for another furniture company, Stolab.
